The Southwest Minnesota State Univeristy Mustang tennis team has finished conference play with the program’s best in-conference record (5-2) since 1997, when they finished 5-1. The team wrapped up their conference season Monday with a home match against Northern State University (1-7), winning 9-0. The 5-2 record put them in third place in the eight team conference, only behind Upper Iowa and Winona State.

All six Mustang individuals won in straight sets, while the doubles scores were 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 and No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3. In the doubles matchups, it was the Ananda Ferrari and Ramona Lerch duo victorious for Southwest over Jessica DesLauriers and Kelsey Lonning by a score of 8-2. At No. 2, Mustangs Danielle Hildebrandt and Cailey Grupe defeated Bridget Henderson and Abbey Johnsen 8-1. Finally, it was Trisha Baldwin and Amy Daniels who beat the Nashay Bercier and Amanda Lee combo 8-2.

No. 1 singles player Ananda Ferrari finished the conference regular season with a 5-1 record in the NSIC and is 12-6 overall this spring. Her 12-6 overall record is the best No. 1 singles record at SMSU since Heda Hlavova went 13-2 in 1997.

The Mustangs’ final regular season match will be this Thursday, April 17, with a 2:30 p.m. start time against the University of Sioux Falls. The match is scheduled to be played at Marshall High School.
